The IceFire forums are older than the rest of the web site. They were created by Pogle on Dec. 6, 2004, as a primary communication space for IceFire members outside of Final Fantasy XI. Through the forums, linkshell members can organize events, share their game knowledge, and otherwise goof-off with each other when not in-game.

The design of the web site grew around these forums. A Garrison Guide was established separately from the forums in plain html--Pogle's favorite kind. In February 2005 I brought up the idea of a LS web site. In May 2007 we transferred the website content to the Joomla! content management system for increased functionality and accessibility.

The IceFire web site was originally hosted on 1&1 webhosting but, after some issues, switched to DreamHost in August 2005. The web site is optimized and tested for Mozilla Firefox, since Internet Explorer is both insecure and notorious for not conforming to standards.
