No toys to show…

Because I've been working on a knitted cardigan for myself. However, I did make something this week:

Parallel Chain Maille Bracelet

I made this in a class with my MIL at the Bead Boutique in SoMD. Exteremely fun, though hard on the eyes. The metalworking aspect and appearance really appeals to me, and looking through my MIL's crafting books I've come up with a few pieces I'd like to make. However, yarn is my mistress right now and I must work on my stash before I can even consider another hobby. I did pick up a few beads on sale for a future necklace or two, but mostly I bought beads that might work as eyes for future toys.

Did I mention we also went yarn shopping? The first time I've been in a yarn shop since Bloomington. We stopped at Crazy for Ewe in SoMD and sort of went into sensory overload. I was pretty blown away by the variety of textures and colors available in that one little space. Ended up adopting 2 skeins Artyarns Supermerino (for a gift), 2 skeins  Sublime extra fine merino dk (hopefully will work for a gift I have in mind), 1 skein Schaefer Yarn Anne (some sort of lace scarf for my MIL, pattern to be determined later), and the ultimate in "I can't believe I spent that much on yarn"…Ellyn Cooper Carrera. It's a 50/50 Wool Silk blend, 660 yards for…well, more than I should have spent. But it's divine. I think I'm keeping this one for myself. 🙂

All this in addition to good food, fun company, and nice kitties (but bad dog) makes this a good little vacation indeed. Pog and I were good, though, and accomplished the tasks that needed to be done in MD. Those were the reason I came up with him on his business trip, but the potential beading/jewelry classes with my MIL may entice me up on others if he can swing it. 😀
