So, given that as usual I had procrastinated until the last minute, I went to the NC DOT license and tag office for Gaston county this morning. Having a scant 3 days before my MD tags expired, I was rather nervous that delays or missing paperwork would mess me up. I had finally received a replacement title from the MD DMV, and I finally found the release of lien from USAA from last fall when I paid my truck off. Took all that, a new insurance card from USAA, and a crapton of cash over, and viola! Less than 10 minutes later, I was walking out with a new tag in hand. Most of that time spent waiting in line. That is simply unbelievable to my mind. In comparison, it took me less time to get my tags than it did to drive round trip to and from the place (less than 2 miles from work), and it will take longer to swap my old MD plates off for the NC ones than it did to get the NC plates issued…
Good form, North Carolina. Good form indeed.
