When we moved into our first apartment up in Baltimore, we were given a couch by our friend Mikaiya's parents. It was in excellent shape, but had a very frou frou pattern on it so that neither of the daughters wanted it. It became my crafting couch and was usually buried under crafting supplies so the pattern didn't matter so much. However, I ran across some gorgeous cloth a couple of days ago and decided on an impulse that it was finally time to cover the frou frou couch.

I think the children like it.
Edit, 8/31/2007 2:03AM : In my exhaustion, I forgot to mention that making this slipcover was a 4 day obsession of mine. My hands are raw from pinning the cloth and the title of the post comes from the fact that the back, arms, and bottom skirt are all one big piece of cloth attached in interesting and inventive ways to allow plenty of give when the couch is in use (this was a hard lesson learned in my last slipcover attempt). Sewing it on the machine was a pain that involved wrestling with about 8 yards of cloth either bunched up behind the sewing machine, next to it, under it when I needed to turn, and on me to varying degrees. Did I mention the thing was pinned? Ouch. I'd like to say never again, but I really love the effect the cloth has had on the couch. I tailored the slipcover as best as my amateur abilities would allow, and I think I did a pretty good job. It really makes the couch contours stand out now, and it looks awesome. I'll admit I'm proud, because I worked hard on this. There are lots of mistakes, but it is my first complete slipcover and my biggest sewing project to date.
Did I mention the pins?
