She always dives between your side and elbow and looks around. This time she decided to explore a little further, with the usual ferretous lack of a sense of self-preservation. A quick grip on a ferret tail has saved them from themselves more than once around here.

Do they react in pain when you do that?
No, otherwise I wouldn’t do it. They usually don’t even notice until they try to move forward (or in this case, down) and they can’t because of me. It never makes them want to bite me, and there is never any indication of pain.
Since there was a pic not even a week ago with Minion seeming rather spazzed over his tail, let me clarify. When a ferret is hyper and playing, as Minion was in that pic, touching *anything* results in ferrety doom. So it wasn’t really a tail reaction in that case.
